There may come a time in your cancer treatment that your physician recommends radiation treatment. Using penetrating beams of high energy waves, radiation can be highly effective in killing cancer cells, keeping them from growing or dividing. The goal of radiation therapy is to kill the cancer cells, with as little risk as possible to normal cells. Almost all forms of cancer can be treated with radiation therapy. At Forum Health's Cancer CareCenters, radiation oncology is provided at three locations; in Mahoning County at the Regional Referral Center at the Northside Medical Center campus in Youngstown and also at Beeghly Medical Park in Boardman; and in Trumbull County at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

Our Radiation Oncology Department

Our Radiation Oncology Departments use radiation, usually administered in the form of high-energy x-rays, to treat disease. Our mission is to provide you with the highest standard of care, support and education before, during and after your radiation treatment. We provide service by referral from your primary care physician.

Your treatments are generally administered on an outpatient basis. However, if hospitalization is necessary, we are able to provide this or transportation from other healthcare facilities to our treatment center.

Our Strengths

The strength of our department begins with the expertise of our radiation oncology healthcare team. Our physicians are board-certified radiation oncologists. Assisting them is a large and diverse team of specialists including registered radiation therapists, specially trained oncology nurses, certified medical physicists and board-certified dosimetrists. Licensed and registered dietitians, counseling and educational professionals, social workers and a chaplain provide additional care and services. Our clerical staff will help provide valuable information regarding insurance, billing, appointments or registration.
